Leslie Cheung is one of Hong Kong’s finest actors and definitely considered as a very talented singer and musician. 5 years ago today, Leslie committed suicide by jumping from the 24th floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Central, Hong Kong. He left a suicide note saying he is suffering from depression. Leslie was 46 years old when he died.

Leslie’s fans, every year, gather at the location where Leslie has jumped to commemorate their idol. Just 25 hours ago (as of press time), fans have gathered and made their tribute to their idol at the same exact location where their idol fell 5 years ago. Leslie is touted as “One of the founding fathers of Cantopop” and voted as The Most Favorite Actor in 100 Years of Chinese Cinema in 2005 (ref: Leslie Cheung at Wikipedia).

Leslie Cheung and Shu Qi did a very good movie together way back in 1996. The movie is called Viva Erotica, where Leslie played the role of a struggling artistic director who has to compromise his beliefs, talent, and passion in real film-making.

Despite having been classified as a Category III movie (because of adult content), this movie has received various nominations and awards, including a nomination for Best Picture and Best Director from the 16th Hong Kong Film Awards.
